Security Laps
If we think about our security majors around the country, we will find that we are far behind in the world though we face enormous terror attacks. And this security lap allows these terrorist to enter in India.
The route they have use to come to India was used in 1993 bomb blasting to ship RDX in India and these routes are also used for drug trafficking. But we don’t have any surveillance around the sea routes. It was good that our neighboring country is not far advance in technology and with limited technology use they have manage to attack us this much heavily. They can do anything if we still sit and wait for their action, so that we can take preventive majors for those actions not to repeat.
Arms and Ammunition
Now if we think about their arms and ammunitions, they are extreme superior than what our police force is having with them. Terrorist is having AK-47 (AK-47 is consider as the Popular gun amongst Terrorist and then AK-56).
With very short training, AK-47 and with the tons of ammunition they have held us for 60 hrs. Imagine if they have got rigorous training of Guerilla warfare what would have happen. As compare to terrorist, what our police has force got is .45 caliber pistols, service revolvers and 303 rifles (B/c of which we have lost the battle with China, One of the reason).
If you do not know, after firing bullet for 303 rifles we have to reload the gun to fire next bullet and this will at least take one min. With AK-47 we can fire 600rounds/min. Now you can imagine worst situation face by our security personal (and same Indian Army face during war with China. 303 rifles V/s automatic rifle with no maps and proper outfit to battle in Himalayas).
Right from our independence we, I’m saying Independence B/c we are the people who elect these politicians, are very insensible or careless about our borders and there security.
To make counter attack on these terrorist we had NSG forces in Mumbai and weapon use by them is INSAS made by ARDA, India. INSAS is also not reliable LMG (Light Machine Gun). This gun is dominantly used in Kargil war by Indian Army. In cold climate, gun’s polymer magazine would crack and occasionally it would jam. We had supplied these guns to Nepal and they have used these guns against the battle of Maoist and Nepal Royal Army says that because of this gun we had many casualties and lost many men as it not good for long fight.
Police Force of Maharashtra
Police force of Maharashtra is always busy in making arrangement of political leader big SABHA’s and there rallies. Maharashtra police force is not having enough men for services.
Police personal are working extra shifts not one, twice or thrice a week and these is making them very tiered. And Mumbai is the prime target of terrorist. You can visualize pressure on Mumbai police and on ATS working in Mumbai. With all these pressure they face action that night with what in hand, service revolvers and 303 rifles.
One of constable on CST was having stain gun with him but after firing one that gun was jammed and he was not able to do anything with it. Our police personal not even get enough time and equipment for shooting practice and with what ground we ask them to save us. They also have their families. To save you if they sacrifices their own lives what they'll get in return, we all know. Humiliation and wait to get government aid, so that they can live.
At the time of attack top police officials in Mumbai was sitting in their office and analyzing the scenario, what can be done? But if they have showed some courage and moved out of there office then situation could be different. One of the reports says that, CP of Mumbai was present on only one location and hadn’t covered all location where attacks were taking place. This shows that we don’t have good leadership and we can’t ask the city police to tackle this kind of conditions.
Bullet proof jacket was one of the big issues in this all. Even with bullet proof jacket our police officials are got killed. Reason behind that was poor quality of jacket. I’m not saying that, at the time of buying jackets, there were some faults (there could be. No one can deny possibilities). You know that climate of Mumbai is humid and as this affects on the food item, it also affects on metals. This humidity causes corrosion in metals. And same happens with the bullet proof jackets. Any jacket in Mumbai climate can’t stay good after five years of service. This could be the reason behind failing bullet proof jacket.
Media
During the war like situation in Mumbai we had another war ongoing to TV channels News channels. They are racing to make braking news to get you lets update about what is going in and around places where terrorist are hiding. All news channels in hurry in saying we are the first news channel to bring you live footage of this place. WTF sorry can’t help it.
We had very bad circumstances out there hundreds of lives were murdered including top police officials. When we had NSG and police taking action against these terrorist, these news personal are covering their moves live on TV. Don’t they understand this is would fail the plan of action and cause many more casualties. But no they were busy in getting TRP for their channel. Our government also not took any action to ban the ongoing broadcasting.
Post Attack
After huge 60hrs battle finally 9 out of 10 terrorist knock down by the forces and one captured alive. Name as Ajmal Kasab. During the rescue operation we had lost many lives of our soldiers as well as civilians. I don’t want to go in exact details about the death count as it is not correct as always. It is govt. declared count which is always less than actual figure.
Post attack we seen the destruction cause by them. What capability they were having. If there are more of these people, picture the condition, what that would be. It is very difficult to handle war like situation in city as we have to save citizens and still we have to eliminate culprit.
We have one proverb in English and also in our mother tongue “Prevention is better than cure”. But we have taken oath; we will learn everything after the lesson and not before it. We known that sea route is used by terrorist before and they can use this again but we neglected it and we are seeing our cause of negligence.
After the attack we came to know that we don’t have enough surveillance equipments to guard our cost line which is in thousands Nautical. We don’t have simple radar system and speed boat to chase in sea. Forget about this incidence, imagine how much drug trafficking would be taking place on these route. And I don’t think still we are having anything with our cost guard. They are helpless to guard cost line of India.
Many youth and all city people came out on roads after the attack and paid homage to our brave soldiers. Many people were holding cut outs saying lots of anger about politicians and towards Pakistan. One sms was circulating during these days “Where is Raj Thakre?” I just don’t understand, what is connection between Raj Thakare and 26/11 attack? What we have achieved by doing this? We just politicize an event in another direction which was totally unnecessary.
